Heather Lawson
Heather Lawson began her formal study of psychology in 1996 at Stonehill College. Her interest in merging creativity and clinical work lead to a dual degree in psychology and fine art, and later to graduate school in both counseling psychology and art therapy. In her early career she worked with children, teens, and adults in school, residential, and hospital settings. Once she became a parent, she shifted gears to support other parents, young children, and families in an early childhood development and professional coaching capacity.
After relocating to rural New Hampshire in 2014 she began full-time doctoral study in clinical psychology at Antioch University. From 2014-2020 she deepened her therapy practice and gained expertise in several areas including: trauma; play therapy; diagnostic assessment; family systems therapy; attachment theory; neurodiversity; supervision; and research. Her clinical training included treatment and assessment for people of all ages (young children to older adults) and dynamic work with couples and families. Her clients had diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, socioeconomic status, sexual orientations and gender identities.
Heather welcomes all people to her practice. She has expertise in persistent mental health difficulties as well as life transitions and adjustments. She is trained in several evidence-based practices and treatment modalities including: DBT, CBT, RCT, MI, PCIT, various trauma therapies, art therapy, and play therapy. Heather enjoys learning from the many wonderful people she sees each day, both inside and outside of her office. When she is not in the office she enjoys being in the woods with her golden retriever, Scarlett, or going on adventures with her 4 teenagers.
